See Plans →Area measures the amount of space inside a 2D shape, in square units. For a rectangle, multiply its length by its width: Area = length × width. You can check this by counting the unit squares that fit inside the rectangle.
A triangle is always half of a rectangle with the same base and height. That is why we divide by 2.
A compound shape is made of two or more simple shapes joined together. Split it into a rectangle and a triangle (or more than one of each), find each area separately, then add them together.
